4 Steps to On-Site Recruitment Success
4 Steps to On-Site Recruitment Success Many businesses still operate on the misconception that their recruitment function is a subservient element of the HR function. I still speak to business leaders who simply want to be free from the hassle of recruitment. This type of resentment still exists as a result of the sales style approach to recruitment which has pestered business leaders with cold calls for as long as I can remember. This has caused a challenge for business leaders, as they donât want the annoyance of hiring but canât actually deliver their services without bringing people into their business to operate it. The future of recruitment To ensure recruitment functions and providers are seen as an integral part of a business and not a necessary evil, we need to change our approach. A recruitment function needs to operate as a strategic partner to the business but how can we do this? To be seen as a strategic partner the recruitment function needs to be deeply embedded in the business and ready to deliver services at a moments notice, we need to know when the business will need people, where they will be needed, the experience required and how many will be needed. Most importantly we need to have these talent pools ready before they are needed. We need a strategy to ensure we are ready to deliver the talent our business needs to succeed. Essentials for your recruitment success 1. Plan decide on and make arrangements for in advance a detailed proposal for doing or achieving something To allow your recruitment strategy to succeed you need to make arrangements in advance, and you need to be proactive. Being proactive sounds easy but to ensure you are proactive in the right areas you need to; Know when you will need people Know how many people you will need Understand the skills and experience your business requires Research the best channels to attract these people Learn how best to engage your audience Research your business and your relevant network of candidates. Draw up a plan on how to interact with this audience and you will be off to a great start. 2. Attract cause to come to a place or participate in a venture by offering something of interest or advantage In order to attract people, you need to offer them something better than what they already have. People often see more benefits in stability, work life balance, progression, development and culture, rather than just getting paid a bit extra. It is important to understand that attracting people will take a significant amount more than just a job description and competitive salary. Think about putting together an employee advocacy plan. 3. Engage âoccupy or attract (someones interest or attention) Engagement is key for a proactive recruitment strategy. Many companies get stuck in the attract and recruit stages of a recruitment process. By implementing an engagement strategy means you can potentially cut up to 60% of the time it takes to hire someone. To make sure your campaigns are actually engaging you will need to create talent pools first, and then modify the campaign so it is relevant to each audience. Engaging people over a long period of time will turn your company into a recruitment magnet in the long run, and take the edge off a lot of your recruitment challenges. 4. Recruit Most in-house functions and agencies jump straight to the recruit stage which includes finding applicants and following the recruitment process up until the hire is complete. By attracting and engaging people before the recruit stage, you will have a talent pool of eager candidates, and you might never need to use an agency again! Perhaps your employee retention will improve as well, by ensuring employees are already engaged with your brand and company values before they join. Get prepared for the future of recruitment Luckily, in most industries and sectors, it is not too late to prepare for the future. In fact, you can give yourself the competitive advantage by doing just that. By planning for each stage of the recruitment process, you can make sure your company is prepared to attract the top professionals in your sector. These are the people that will drive your success and secure your future. Want to continue the conversation? Connect with me on LinkedIn. Image: Shutterstock

Things to Consider When Writing a Resume Statement
Things to Consider When Writing a Resume StatementThere are many criteria to consider when determining whether or not to include a new career as a resume writing objective. The objective should be based on the qualities of the candidate that the person possesses. An employee should be able to meet the requirements of the company before they are asked to write a resume. The most common reason to include a new job as a resume objective is for the ability to handle a variety of tasks. The overall goal of an organization is to get as many employees as possible working for them so that they can provide the best services to their customers. If the employee already has years of experience, then the job that they hold may be an easy task for them. This is often times true if the person has been working for a large company and has other responsibilities within their current job.A few people should look for a resume objective that includes the skills that the person has. The employee should hav e the qualifications needed to perform their duties in the position that they are applying for. The abilities that are listed must be a combination of different skills. For example, if the person already has years of experience as a sales person, but needs to learn new techniques on how to sell, then the resume statement should include new information on how to sell. Most companies prefer that the resume be written from scratch as opposed to using templates from similar companies. They also prefer that the employee be honest with them about their skills and abilities. As such, they feel that the resume is the perfect opportunity to communicate what it is that the person has to offer. They do not want to hire someone who does not have the desired skills. It is important to emphasize how these skills can benefit the company. However, the employer may also need to know what it is that the candidate needs to do in order to prove that they are the best person for the job. The objective sho uld discuss specific skills, but it should not attempt to convince the company of the worth of the employee. The objective should help to set the standards that the company has four employees. When writing the resume, the employer should take into consideration the length of time that the employee has been working for the company. When the employer does not have any other choices for the job, they should consider the time spent in the company. The more that the employee has spent in the company, the more experience they have. The hiring process will typically include some form of an interview. The interviewer will check the candidate's credentials to determine if they have what it takes to perform the job. During this process, the employee may need to show how they can demonstrate their skills to a potential employer. The objective should include the abilities that the candidate needs to show to the interviewer.Regardless of whether or not the applicant has a new job, they should writ e a resume statement as if they were applying for a job that they already have. The objective should highlight the skills that the candidate possesses and provide examples of previous work experience. With the current economy, it is even more important that an applicant make sure that they list their skills and abilities at the top of the resume. It will be easier for the employer to identify the right candidate if they know what the qualifications are.

Work and Hobbies You Can Embrace Both
Work and Hobbies You Can Embrace Both Work and hobbies dont seem to go together. Hobbies are usually things people do for fun and for themselves. Work is thought of as the thing that is not fun, wears you out, and is only done because you need to make money to live. Itâs a sad reality that work has developed that kind of reputation for so many. Not everybody has that opinion of work, but when youâre forced to work 40 plus hours a week, it can be draining, especially when work eats up all the time you would rather spend engaging in the hobby that you thoroughly enjoy and feeds your soul. What if you were told that you can do both and be happy? Work is work, but it shouldnât take away from you enjoying life in itâs fullness. Sure you have to be up early for work tomorrow, but perhaps itâs time to live a little and have a hobby that keeps you up later than 10 oâclock. Itâs ultimately your choice, but if you want to know how you can embrace work and hobbies, here are some things you can do: Cut Back on Hours at the Office Itâs time to really evaluate your life and circumstances right now. You might think that you need to work 40 hours a week, plus all of the overtime you can get so that you can afford the home you live in and the car you drive and that vacation once or twice a year, but really think about what youâre spending money on and think if it is worth your time spent at work and your happiness. Maybe you donât need to work as much as you think you do. Just consider it. Maybe you can cut back on hours at the office, spend more time doing creative things, and just chill with your family. You might not need as much as you think you need, and less time doing what you hate and more time doing what you love might just change the entire paradigm of how you view your life. Just Do Something Many people donât even try to go out and find a hobby for themselves because theyâre stuck in a mindset that they always have to answer to work. Thatâs valid, but just because you have work the next morning doesnât mean you cant spend a Tuesday night taking a salsa lesson until ten or learning a new foreign language. When you were in school, you were the master of combining hobbies with work. Just because youâre older doesnât mean you should lose that drive to experience life and do what you want to do. Next time somebody asks if you want to audition for a play or take a painting class, donât say no. Pick up knitting, join a karate class, or take a partner dance class with your spouse or friends. It will give you a new zest for life and an excitement for how you can bring that new life into work. Two Things More Important than Good Grades
Two Things More Important than Good Grades The typical advice parents give their kids as they ship them off to college is study hard and get good grades. Well, I believe there is more to college than just getting good grades. Here are the things I think parents should be telling their kids as freshman: Join clubs or groups. Getting involved in activities will greatly enhance the experience. It will put students in contact with either like-minded individuals or those all-together different. Being involved in campus activities offers opportunities for leadership and other practical skill development (budget management, public relations, marketing, coordination, communication and so on). It also begins the process of networking and cultivating circles of acquaintances. LinkedIn has recently added volunteering opportunities as an option to profile information. Heres more information about Why Volunteering is Good for Your Career Get an internship or job each semester. It has always been difficult for new graduates to get jobs after college. Really, it has. They lack experience in the workplace. The best way to reduce this obstacle is to get some experience. Internships should be required of all students, in my opinion and colleges/universities should be incorporating them into every course. Sure, it is a lot of work for the college, but we are paying them to provide an education- an education has to be more than just lectures and class work. Lets demand this! It is never to early to start. High school students should be hearing the same message. Good grades arent enough. Being an excellent athlete isnt enough. Well rounded and well connected, that is the key. So what will you tell your college student this year? Psst: What will you tell yourself this year?

Working As A Secondary School Teacher
Working As A Secondary School Teacher The need for well trained and dedicated teachers has never been so dire. With budget cuts claiming jobs in almost every sector, it would seem that the key to any kind of success begins with a good education. While this may seem fairly self evident, the reality is that fewer and fewer people are dreaming of becoming a teacher when they grow up. Similarly, once they have grown up, fewer and fewer people are considering teaching as a possible career path. In this blog, weâll look at the pros and cons of becoming a secondary school teacher. The reasons for this are varied. The so called pros and cons of the teaching profession weigh fairly evenly. On the one hand, as a secondary school teacher you will have wonderful, long holidays, unlike those who work a traditional 9 to 5. You are able to take school trips., and teaching can be incredibly rewarding. This is especially the case if you are teaching a subject that you like. Finally, the pay is reasonably good â" a basic secondary s chool teacher salary is about £35,000.On the negative side of the scale, whether you like your job often comes down to whether you are working in a good environment with good people. If the school where you work is unpleasant as a place, or the people are unpleasant, it can make for an extremely taxing workplace. One of the worst parts of the job is undoubtedly the piles and piles of marking, and of course there are the students who can be both a pro and a con depending on their discipline and willingness to learn.Unfortunately in recent years the focus of education has shifted from pure education, to meeting targets set by the government. Schools are now required to meet increasingly strict targets, putting not only students but teachers under pressure. Target setting is an incentive that has worked with alarming regularity in the corporate and retail world â" setting targets for employees to meet ensures that they have a good idea of what is required by them by the company. Th e target sets the expectation. The role of targets in the educational environment is the same. The target has now become the focus of the educational system, rather than seeking to educate the students. Just like in a retail or sales environment, teachers now must compromise and do things they would otherwise not do just to meet the set targets. Many teachers feel they are being pressurised to manipulate the test scores that they once would have marked fairly. In addition, many teachers have been required to exclude parts of the curriculum in order to focus on exam practice and put on after-school exam coaching classes, some have even resorted to bribing students to get the results that they need. The past few years have seen a stark increase in the number of strikes from UK teachers. Due to all of the factors above, many teachers now feel that their basic salary is not enough. They argue that the factors above mean that they should be earning more. Cutbacks mean that teachers are now working more hours, for less reward. If you think that teaching is a 9-5 job, think again. As we mentioned, along with marking, there is lesson planning, early starts and the psychological impact of dealing with difficult students. Teachers will frequently start work at 7, and finish at 6 in the evening. For the majority of people, this is unthinkable, so why do we expect it of teachers? Factors such as the change in government mean that teachers are now being held to unrealistic standards, which they cannot possibly meet. So, who is at fault for this? Is it the teachers who cannot deal with unruly and undisciplined classes? Or is it the government instituted targets? Whoever is at fault, what is certain is that education in the UK is deteriorating. This entry was posted in Education, Career Advice. Bookmark the permalink.
